About Whale and dolphin watching Trincomalee
You will have to wake up early and travel to the Trincomalee Harbour where you will be met by our friendly crew at 6 a.m. You will then take a boat along with your guide and travel for around half an hour out to sea where you will be able to see dolphins, turtles and maybe even blue whales and sperm whales. It is a truly unique experience and a brilliant opportunity to witness the earth’s largest mammal – the blue whale.
The largest mammals on our planet travel in pods and follow a matriarchal system similar to elephants. Off the eastern coast of Sri Lanka, you can often encounter super pods containing as many as 40 or more as well as large numbers of Spinner Dolphins.
Sri Lanka is considered to be one of the best places in the world for whale and dolphin watching while as many as 26 of the 80 species of cetaceans recorded around the world are also found in the Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal.
Trincomalee is also one of the deepest and most strategically placed natural harbors in the world and has a rich history dating back thousands of years.
Come experience these magnificent sights and take back with you experiences and memories that will last a lifetime.

However, on some days, even with our best efforts, it is impossible for us to show you the whales. It’s important that we are aware that it’s wildlife that we are going to see in the ocean.
- Getting seasick: There is always at least a light swell on the Indian Ocean. If it’s the first time for you on a boat in the Indian Ocean or if you tend to get seasick, we advise you to take medication recommended by your doctor, on the morning of the trip (about 1-2 hours before you enter the boat).
