You will be starting your tour from your hotel in Bentota. Your chauffeur will pick you up at 6:00 am. You will then begin the three-and-a-half-hour journey to Pinnawala. Once you get there you will see the many orphaned baby elephants that have been rescued and are cared for at the facility. You will also be able to watch them being fed and bathed and possibly help with these duties as well.
At 10:30 am you will be traveling to the holy city of Kandy. You will get to the Temple of the Tooth Relic by 12:30 am. The temple is the place where the holy tooth of Buddha is housed. It is a beautiful structure which was once part of the royal palace complex of the ancient kingdom of Kandy. With elegant pillars and arches, golden embellishments and beautiful paintings; the entire place is a work of art. The inner shrine is especially worth seeing with its gold statues, colorful fresh flowers, calming incense and feeling of quiet meditation.
From 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, you will be having lunch, at your own cost, at the hotel of your choice in Kandy. The city offers several excellent and mouthwatering options. You will then visit one or more of the craft workshops in Kandy; such as lapidaries, woodcarvers or batik factories. You will be watching the craftsmen ply their trade creating beautiful works of art from scratch. You will also be able to purchase souvenirs if you so wish. At 4:00 pm you will be traveling to Peradeniya to visit the Royal Botanical Garden. You will get there by 4:30 pm.
A mainstay of the country for over two centuries; the Royal Botanical Garden was established by the British and is one of the top botanical gardens around the world. It has thousands of species of plants; some of which are millennia old. The gardens played host to the Headquarters of the Allied Forces in the South East Asian Region, during the Second World War. You will see the remains of this historical event, the butterfly gardens, the colorful flower gardens, the famous Cannonball Tree, and much more while you walk the expansive grounds of the Royal Botanical Gardens.
At 5:30 pm you will be leaving the gardens and returning to Bentota. You will get back to your hotel by 8:30 pm, completing your tour.
